Every outstanding portrait begins with careful planning, which is why we always schedule a Portrait Planning Session with you. Among the topics we’ll explore in this one hour session is the ambiance you seek -- casual, dramatic or intimate. We’ll discuss where the portraits will hang, because the space in which you display the portrait will help determine the pose and size of the finished portrait. For example, you wouldn’t want to hang an 8X10 above a huge fireplace because it would get lost. And while blue jeans and OSU shirts would be just fine for the family room, they would be out of place in a formal living room. We’ll consider the emotion you want to capture, i.e. will you want the portrait to be full of fun and laughter or very formally posed and serious?

Most importantly, you’ll learn what you can control to make this the best portrait you ever took. That includes clothing, accessories, and attitudes. Don’t worry; we’ll help you with tips and suggestions. For instance, busy patterns can overwhelm the faces in a portrait, just as a variety of sleeve lengths can create confusing patterns.

At this Pre-Planning session, we’ll also discuss any extra groups you might want, since you have everyone together in one place. Grandparents by themselves? Mom and Dad together? Mom and Dad and the kids only? Grandparents and grandkids (we find this one is ALWAYS popular, but few people ever think of planning for it).
